    New Tri-Council Policy Statement Released
    May 15, 2011

    The Presidents of the federal research agencies (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) are pleased to announce the release of the 2nd edition of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: http://www.pre.ethics.gc.ca/ Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans, or TCPS 2.

    MedEdPORTAL announces new Associate Editor
    May 15, 2011

    In 2010, the Association of American Medical Colleges was awarded grant funding from the Human Resources and Services Administration for Building Oral Health Training Capacity in Medical Education. This vital initiative will aid physician understanding of the oral-systemic impact on overall health in order to prepare clinicians to provide comprehensive coordinated care. To build this capacity, access to appropriate instructional materials and content will be peer-reviewed and made available via MedEdPORTAL, serving as a model oral health in medicine curriculum collection.

    MedEdPORTAL is extremely pleased to announce that Dieter Jürgen Schönwetter, PhD, will serve as the Associate Editor for this innovative collection. Dr. Schönwetter is an Associate Professor and Director of Educational Resources, Faculty Development with the Faculty of Dentistry, at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

    2010 CADR-IMHA Student Award Presentations
    September 4, 2010

    The CADR-IMHA Student Research Awards are cosponsored by the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR) and the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Of the seven awards, five were presented to winners at the annual meeting of the CADR held in March in conjunction with meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) in Washington, DC. Two of the seven winners received the IADR/Unilever Divisional Travel Award and represented Canada at the Hatton Award competitions during the recent meeting of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in Barcelona, Spain.

The three prestigious awards recognize research in innovative oral care technologies that may maintain and improve oral health and the quality of life.

    Honourary Degree for Richard Ellen
    Linkoping, Sweden, May 22, 2010.

    Past CADR President and former IADR Regional Board Member for North America Richard Ellen was granted an honorary degree, Doctor of Medicine Honoris Causa, by Linkoping University, Sweden. The citation announced during the promotion ceremony recognized Richard for his contributions to research in host-parasite interactions in periodontal disease, his leadership in promoting international collaboration especially in research training, and for being a “Sweden-friendly” professor who, over 30 years, has shown an appreciation for Swedish culture/customs, a penchant for Nordic skiing and swimming, and excellence in the Swedish language.

    The Faculty of Health Science, Linkoping University, is among the leading medical faculties in Sweden and is especially recognized for excellence of its problem-based learning curriculum. It has no formal dental program. Richard’s long-term collaboration in Linkoping has been through the Faculty’s medical microbiology division and through interactions with the regional public dental health specialty clinics.

    Inaugural CADR-Quintessence-ACFD Visiting Professorship Awarded
    December 31, 2009


    Dr. Douglas Hamilton from the University of Western Ontario received the inaugural CADR-Quintessence-ACFD Visiting Professorship. Dr. Hamilton will visit Dalhousie University to enhance research collaborations between the two institutions.

    CADR-IMHA Student Award Presentations
    December 31, 2009


    Dr. Debora Matthews, Vice-President of CADR presented Dr. Elham Emami from the University of Montreal with the CADR-IMHA Student Research Award. She won First Place in the Senior Clinical Research category for her project "Oral and general health quality of life for edentulous elders wearing 2-implant overdentures: results from a one-year RCT".


    Carl Cuddy from the University of Western Ontario received first place in the Junior Category of the CADR-IMHA Student Research awards. His project title was “Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome is associated with defective osteoclastogenesis".


    Dr. Marco Magalhes, the University of Toronto received First place in the Senior Basic Science Category for his project "Membrane lipid charge determines the localization of Rac 1 and Rac2 during neutrophil phagocytosis and chemotaxis".


    Jill Levine from the University of Toronto received Second Place in the Senior Clinical Science category for her project "Development and validation of a shortened questionnaire to assess stress and social support in adult patients with periodontal disease".


    Roland Leung from the University of Toronto received Second Place in the Senior Basic Science Category for his project "Filamin A regulates monocyte migration during osteoclastogenesis".

    The general session of the IADR and the CADR meeting were held in Toronto, Canada in 2008. CADR is pleased to announce the winners of several award categories. Also included are several photos from the meeting.
