Closing the Gap Workshop
You are invited to attend the "Closing the Gap Between Oral Health Research and Practice" workshop to be held at the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax, on
Thursday Oct 27, 2011. We hope you will join us as we celebrate 10 years of research exploring the oral health of older adults in Nova Scotia.
Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is an important component of healthy aging. In Nova Scotia, as elsewhere in Canada, people are keeping more of their natural teeth as they age. This trend, although welcome, presents new challenges for providing oral care for older adults - challenges that will continue to grow in importance as our population ages.
The workshop will focus on two oral health research projects in particular:
1) The Oral Health of our Aging Population (TOHAP) study - a province-wide survey of the oral health status of Nova Scotians age 45+, and
2) Oral Care in Long-Term Care Settings (the Trifacilities project) - a study that explored, and developed practical strategies to facilitate daily oral care provision to residents of long-term care facilities.
The morning session will include presentations and discussions of the outcomes of these studies and what these findings mean for the aging Nova Scotian population. The afternoon will involve more interactive sessions where the practical and policy implications of this research will be considered and creative solutions for uptake examined.
To help with our planning, please register by September 15, 2011 by filling out the online registration form.
